ADAM: Help a Manus Refugee Rebuild His Life

Adam always dreamed of being an engineer or doctor and making a meaningful contribution to the world. At the age of 26, violence and persecution forced him to flee his home in Sudan before he had a chance to realise those dreams.
Seeking asylum and a new life in Australia, Adam was instead was unlawfully detained on Manus Island. In July last year, he was finally resettled in Baltimore, Maryland and started rebuilding.
The COVID-19 pandemic, which has had a disproportionate and devastating impact on poor and immigrant communities in the USA, has been a significant hurdle for Adam and other newly arrived refugees. Aussies across the United States and back home in Austalia are stepping up to help.
Dozens of refugees before have found a commercial truck driving license is a ticket to a secure, COVID-safe, well-paying job, but CDL license costs can be high.

Adam is thankful to America and to the Aussies who supported him through his time on Manus. Now, he is making ends meet through a low-paid warehouse job, but is seeking new opportunities so he can support himself and his family, and realise his dreams to study.
Funds donated will be held in the Ads-Up Refugee Network Charity Account and used to directly pay for training costs. If this page raises more than is required to fund Adam’s training, excess funds will be reallocated to help another refugee cover training costs.
